Still one of the best villains EVER...screw you Lucas and your stupid Eps I, II and III.
Highly inspired by Doctor Doom of Fantastic Four fame.
I can see why would think that but that is not what the designed referred his look to.
The helmet is inspired by Japanese warriors and the designer said the put the breathing ap on him to explain how he can walk between ships and still breath.
From there Lucas created the back story and made him a cyborg.
I don't see or hear Doom at all.
Actually it was mentioned in a book "History of Marvel Comics" that both Lucas and Speilberg were huge fans of Marvel comics in the 60's.
They also mention how Vader does indeed have a hint of Doom in him.
Of course....Lucas is into "revisionist" history these days.
But Lucas didn't design Vador's look
